I wish I could remember where it was that I read the following:
"All crimes in the world are not done by those that have actually committed
them, but are done by those that saw them happen and chose to close their eyes,
by those that heard them being done and chose to cover their ears, and by those
that could have said something and chose to shut their mouth!"
So let us all start a close look at ourselves when it comes to the public floggings,
the executions, the imprisonments, the stoning, and the many other atrocities
and injustices that are being done and have been done in the past in our homeland,
Iran, and honestly see who has committed them?
We have been and are seeing the
- Disturbing pictures of Palestinians distributed by all of us on a daily
basis.
- Petitions that go around condemning injustices and atrocities around the
world.
- Iranians gathering and putting notices in papers and other media condemning
the September 11 terrorist acts.
So we can easily conclude that there is a conscious out there and that we feel
the pain and suffering of others; BUT, when it comes to Iran! Majority of us
choose to be silent.
Why?
Most of us say "I am not political".
So then it is good to ask?
- When we don't Rape someone, is it because we are not Political?
- When we don't Hang someone, is it because we are not Political?
- When we don't Torture someone, is it because we are not Political?
- When we don't Stone someone, is it because we are not Political?
- When we respect Humanity, is it because we are Political?
I hope the answer is NO.
Why then? Why do we choose to be silent and seek refuge behind "I am not
political"?
In Iran's tumultuous history, atrocities were hardly ever done by anyone but
the people of Iran. We are all responsible. As long as we don't accept responsibility
we can not start our quest for a solution.
It is time for a real dialog especially with our own conscious. It can be a
